Overview

The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, founded in 1958, is a large-scale Grade III-A general hospital directly administered by the National Health Commission. Located in Changsha, Hunan Province, it traces its origins to Yale Hospital, established by the Yale-China Association in 1906. The hospital operates with 3,630 authorized beds and covers an area of over 190,000 square meters. It is renowned for its comprehensive medical services, teaching, and research capabilities. The hospital features 42 clinical departments and 9 medical technology departments, with 23 National Key Clinical Specialties, including Psychiatry, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Metabolism and Endocrinology. It is the only medical institution in China to host two National Clinical Medical Research Centers (for metabolic diseases and mental/psychological diseases). The hospital offers an International Medical Department to cater to foreign patients, providing services such as VIP wards, translation services, and direct billing. While it maintains high standards of care, it is not JCI accredited. The hospital has achieved significant milestones, including pioneering complex surgeries and establishing the first Aviation Medical Rescue Consortium in Hunan Province.
